It’s Summer Time @ The Peay

June 20th, 2007 by Megan

Summer Welcomes have been well under way here at Austin Peay State University and it has been super exciting to get to meet all of the new students that we will have here on campus. At this point we have hosted almost 10 Summer Welcomes and have seen over 700 new students already!

It has been a lot of work, but it is nice to see students being able to begin their first steps to becoming a college graduate. It is awesome to see young adults be able to begin working on goals that they have set for themselves and I am glad so many of them have chosen Austin Peay State University as a place to do this.

Wisdom Teeth

June 12th, 2007 by Megan

If you are frequent reader you may have noticed by now that I haven’t blogged as much as I usually do over the past week. Well, there is an explanation for all of this. Unfortunately I have not been able to blog because I have been on sick leave. Last Thursday even though I didn’t have to be at work my alarm went off bright and early at six a.m. What for? Surgery, that’s what for.

This was my first time to ever have any kind of surgery so I guess you could say I have been really blessed health wise through most of my adolescent career. I had to have my wisdom teeth removed pronto because I was in a lot of pain, but believe me I was not excited about the surgery. Unfortunately I had to bite the bullet and go under the knife because the pain from my wisdom teeth was just more than I could bear.

Thursday morning I went into surgery and came out feeling like I had just taken a really great nap. It wasn’t bad at all and I can’t believe how scared I had made myself over it. The next few days were spent lying on the couch watching TV and mostly sleeping. It was a nice break, but the pain sure didn’t feel too good. I knew that I was on the way to not ever having to deal with my wisdom teeth again.

I came back to work on Monday and I have felt okay ever since. There is still some mild pain, but nothing I can’t handle and it just feels good to be out of my house because 4 days of not leaving was almost intolerable since I am such a busy body. Work has been super busy since we are preparing for four days of Summer Welcome and so it has been good to have my mind off my teeth and on work.

The only thing I have to say that I am really upset about is the fact that I am limited on what I can eat. I absolutely LOVE to eat and Clarksville has plenty to offer for you to chose from, but since I have had my wisdom teeth out I have been really limited to where I can eat and I am really tired of mashed potatoes.

Now that I am back and well my blogs should keep on coming so be sure to check back every few days to see new postings. Also, don’t forget to check out our student blogs, they certainly are pretty intriguing. Did you see the one about the onion man? Too funny.

Have a wisdom teeth story you want to share or just want a leave a comment, go ahead! I would love to get feedback from my readers!

Makeba Webb

Makeba Webb

Makeba Webb is an Admissions Counselor here at Austin Peay State University. She is an APSU grad and one of the older recruiters. She says that she has seen a lot and learned even more during her time at the Peay. Makeba started as a student in 1995 and is now going to witness the third University President take his role as the leader of APSU.

She has worked in three different offices while here (Housing, Registrar, and Admissions), but states that working in Admissions definitely exposed her to many different people. She has been able to learn to service the needs of the traditional 18 year old student to the single mother with 3 kids trying to come back to school and fulfill a dream that was postponed.

Makeba’s time at APSU has proven to be a time of great learning, but most importantly growth; personally and mentally. APSU is a wonderful place to shape yourself into a responsible and goal driven person. She has spent the past 12 years of her life at this university in the capacities of student, student worker, secretary, and now a recruiter. Makeba says that she would not trade this time in her life for anything and I thank God for steering me in the direction of APSU.

Sally Allen

Sally is the Admissions Manager here at Austin Peay State University. Sally went to APSU as an undergrad starting in 1996 and graduated in 2000, majoring in communication. She also went on to attend Grad School at The Peay and in 2005 she received her Masters in Communication Arts.

Sally decided her freshmen year that she loved APSU to much to leave, so she called her mom the week of finals and said, “I have a job, an apartment and have registered for 1 summer class.” She never lived at home again and has been a member of the Austin Peay family and the Clarksville community ever since. She even met her husband here on the first day of school.

She loves APSU and some of her fondest memories are from living in Sevier & Meacham. Her fave APSU activity as an undergrad was Welcome Week because of all its fun activities and her fave APSU activity as an alum & staff is Homecoming; she loves the Block Party because it is such fun to see everyone. Sally definitely has Peay Pride and if you have any questions at all about Austin Peay or Clarksville she is a great person to turn to!

Got questions for Sally? Leave them as a comment and I will be sure and get you an answer!
