Classes are officially underway at Austin Peay. The campus is booming with returning students and also new fresh faces. After a slow summer it is nice to see the campus buzzing with students again.

There have been some changes made to campus since students left for the summer. A big change are the options available when it comes to dining on campus. New to the Food Court are Habaneros Southwest, Mamma Leone’s Pizza & Pasta and Total Health Outtakes. The APSU Café will feature Pulse on Dining, with a non-repeating 22-day menu. The dining hours have been modified to match student needs more closely.

I hope that all of the freshman out there are enjoying their first week here at the Peay. Having a good first week experience? Missing home? Let me know what’s going on with you! Feel free to comment.

Best of luck with the rest of the week!

On the Road Again

Tuesday, July 10th, 2007

I just got back from a journey to Knoxville, TN. I was on a trip to attend the college fair that was held during the Governor’s School for the Sciences and Engineering. It seemed like it was a lot of fun for the students who were there, even though it involved a lot of class time.

At the fair, I was really impressed to see how motivated high school kids are today. The students that attended the program were in the summer before their senior year of high school and at the end of the program would have already earned six to nine hours of college credit. That is a really big chunk of college to have completed before even applying to one and in five weeks none the less!

If you are interested in earning college credit before starting college you don’t have to attend the Governor’s School to do so. You can start right here at Austin Peay State University through our Dual Enrollment program. It is through this program that high school juniors and seniors are able to earn college credit. For more information on the program check out the Austin Peay website by clicking here.

Have questions about Dual Enrollment? Wanna know more about Austin Peay? Leave me a question and I will get you an answer!

Pardon the Mess!

Ellington Sign

Its construction time here in Ellington and that means lots of dust, noise, and quiet a bit of mess. (Not to mention headaches for the staff :) !) The front lobby of the Ellington Building is currently undergoing renovations. The Ellington Building is home to the Admissions Office, Financial Aid, and the Office of the Registrar (just to name a few!). If you are planning on stopping by any of these offices any time soon please be aware of the construction.

It will take a few more weeks before construction is complete so please pardon our mess and be sure to follow the caution signs. After the construction is over and the renovations are complete why not plan to stop on by and check out the new lobby! I will keep you posted as to when this happens.

Want to see more of the campus than the Ellington front lobby? Check out our online tour by clicking here: Virtual Tour

Want to see the real thing first hand? Feel free to schedule an appointment for a campus tour. You can schedule your tour online by clicking here: Schedule Tour or by contacting the Admissions Office at 1(800)844-APSU. Campus tours are available Monday through Friday at 9:45 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Who knows you may just get to meet me in person!

Have questions about Admissions? Leave them as a comment and I will be sure to get you an answer.

It’s Summer Time @ The Peay

Wednesday, June 20th, 2007

Summer Welcomes have been well under way here at Austin Peay State University and it has been super exciting to get to meet all of the new students that we will have here on campus. At this point we have hosted almost 10 Summer Welcomes and have seen over 700 new students already!

It has been a lot of work, but it is nice to see students being able to begin their first steps to becoming a college graduate. It is awesome to see young adults be able to begin working on goals that they have set for themselves and I am glad so many of them have chosen Austin Peay State University as a place to do this.

If you are thinking about attending Austin Peay and have not applied it is still not too late! Go online and fill out the application and maybe I will be seeing you at the upcoming Summer Welcomes.

Hope to see you at a Summer Welcome soon!

How Are We Doing?

Thursday, May 17th, 2007

Life is busy; everyone can agree to that, but that is still no excuse for bad service. I heard a story today about a lady who went to a restaurant and was having a horrible experience (haven’t we all!), only to have her waitress tell her she must be having a bad day. The lady laughed and said, “Well I wasn’t having a bad day till I came to eat here.” How many times has a story like this happened to you? I would be willing to say that it has happened to us all at some point. Today I attended a Customer Service seminar to learn how to better serve our “customers”, and by customers I really mean our students.

So I guess what I really want to know is how is Austin Peay doing? Are you getting the service you would like from us? If so; tell us about it, that way we can keep it up! If not; how could we serve you better?

Just a little thought I had and who better to get feedback from than you, our actual customers!
