Back to School

It’s back to school time across the nation and students everywhere are packing their brown paper bag lunches, grabbing their backpacks, and returning to the classroom. For some students this will be their last year in school. Those students out there who are celebrating (with perhaps a hint of sadness) the joy of being a senior don’t forget how fast time will go by. What are you going to be doing after graduation?

It is never too early to think about that big decision on what you are going to do with the rest of your life. Higher education is a great option for a lot of students and Austin Peay would be a great place for you to begin you career as a college student. Since school has started back be on the lookout for an Austin Peay State University admissions counselor at your school and at college fairs. Be sure to stop by and say Hello, you may be surprised at the all the information we can provide you that will help you take the first step towards the rest of your life.

Happy Back to School! Are you excited? Sad? Relieved? What are your thoughts about your senior year? Whether it is this year or many years past or maybe even still to come! Let us know, we love to hear your opinion!

Wisdom Teeth

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

If you are frequent reader you may have noticed by now that I haven’t blogged as much as I usually do over the past week. Well, there is an explanation for all of this. Unfortunately I have not been able to blog because I have been on sick leave. Last Thursday even though I didn’t have to be at work my alarm went off bright and early at six a.m. What for? Surgery, that’s what for.

This was my first time to ever have any kind of surgery so I guess you could say I have been really blessed health wise through most of my adolescent career. I had to have my wisdom teeth removed pronto because I was in a lot of pain, but believe me I was not excited about the surgery. Unfortunately I had to bite the bullet and go under the knife because the pain from my wisdom teeth was just more than I could bear.

Thursday morning I went into surgery and came out feeling like I had just taken a really great nap. It wasn’t bad at all and I can’t believe how scared I had made myself over it. The next few days were spent lying on the couch watching TV and mostly sleeping. It was a nice break, but the pain sure didn’t feel too good. I knew that I was on the way to not ever having to deal with my wisdom teeth again.

I came back to work on Monday and I have felt okay ever since. There is still some mild pain, but nothing I can’t handle and it just feels good to be out of my house because 4 days of not leaving was almost intolerable since I am such a busy body. Work has been super busy since we are preparing for four days of Summer Welcome and so it has been good to have my mind off my teeth and on work.

The only thing I have to say that I am really upset about is the fact that I am limited on what I can eat. I absolutely LOVE to eat and Clarksville has plenty to offer for you to chose from, but since I have had my wisdom teeth out I have been really limited to where I can eat and I am really tired of mashed potatoes.

Now that I am back and well my blogs should keep on coming so be sure to check back every few days to see new postings. Also, don’t forget to check out our student blogs, they certainly are pretty intriguing. Did you see the one about the onion man? Too funny.

Have a wisdom teeth story you want to share or just want a leave a comment, go ahead! I would love to get feedback from my readers!

My how time flys . . .

This post is a little bit more personal, but I think that I can tell you from my college experience how great college will be for you.

Today is May 25 and this time last year I was on a plane on the way to Greece with a study abroad program. How cool? I spent five weeks traveling throughout the country and islanding hopping. Class happened at about 11 every morning for an hour on the roof top garden of our hotel. Then we were off to site see, shop, eat, and have tons of fun – like jumping off 20 foot cliffs into the Mediterranean Sea and horse back riding on the beaches of Naxos. These are some of my most fond memories and it was an experience that I would never trade for anything. Especially as I sit here today in the real world thinking about “the good ole days”, you know the ones that didn’t involve an 8 to 4:30 schedule.

In those five weeks I was able to have lots of fun, gain lots of self confidence and all while earning college credit. Study Abroad is just one of the many options that are available for you when you come to college. There are so many other things about college that have shaped me into the person that I am today and it is one of the most amazing times of your life. I look back now and I wouldn’t trade those 4 years for anything and I probably should have been on the 5 year plan even though my Dad probably wouldn’t agree.

Austin Peay State University is a great stepping stone for shaping you and your future. You will learn more about the world and most importantly about yourself in college than you ever will any where else. I challenge you to make the most of your four years. Yes, you are here to get an education, but be sure to push yourself to grow in other ways too. Live on campus, go to class, make new friends, spend time hanging out in the UC, watch the Gov’s play. I promise that all of things will end up being the fondest memories of your life. I know that my college memories are some of my fondest!
