As all of you high school seniors venture out to tour your choice colleges, I am sure you will hear about the traditions unique to each school. At Austin Peay we have several traditions that range from our unique cheer of “Let’s Go Peay” to our annual mud volleyball game known as “MudBowl”. This coming Saturday is the date for another of our traditions known as “Plant The Campus Red”. This event has been held every spring since 1999 when a tornado hit campus causing mass amounts of destruction. More than 400 students, faculty and community members participated in the initial event, planting hundreds of red and white flowers in order to “bring life back” to our campus. The purpose of “Plant The Campus Red” is to continue bring the Austin Peay community together to beautify our campus every spring. High school students wanting to get a taste of college life should think about participating in the Science and Mathematics Academy (SAMA) being held on our campus from June 7 through June 19. This program is open to area high school students will be in 10th or 11th grade this fall. Fifty students will be selected to participate in the Academy. Not only will this be a great chance for students to take college level courses and meet APSU faculty, but participants will also stay in one of our residence halls to get a feeling for on-campus living. Interested students should ask their School Counselor for an application packet. Applications are due by April 24. Check out this link for more information:
