A Day in the Life…

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

The work of an Admissions Counselor, like every job, has it’s stresses, perks, ups and downs. There are days you may wonder if you are making a difference to anyone, and there are days that make you feel like you have the best job in the world.
At a recent conference, I attended a session called “Young Professionals–Staying Motivated”. During this session, the speaker (Don Watson from Belmont) asked us if we had ever had a “Wow” moment that made us realize how much of a difference we make to students. I had to say that I had yet to have a “Wow” moment. Later that night, when I got back to my hotel room, I found that I had received an email from a student who attends a high school which I had recently visited. This student let me know how grateful they were that I had spoken to their class, and despite how overwhelming the whole process seemed, they were now encouraged to begin looking at college.
After reading this email, I realized how much of a difference not only I, but all Admissions Counselors can make in the life of a student. We are here to help you, please take advantage of our resources and ask questions if you are having trouble, we will help you the best we can!
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
